Safety & Care
What is Resin?
Resin, a type of polyepoxide, is a two-part adhesive widely used across various industries. In our work, we use resin as an art medium, crafting intricate beach-inspired designs through multiple layered applications. When properly mixed, fully cured, and undamaged, resin is safe for food contact. When looking to purchase a resin cheeseboard, look for an experienced crafter, and a smooth finish on the resin.
However, we recommend avoiding direct cutting on the resin surface. Instead, use the wooden portion of your cheeseboard for slicing and serving. For everyday chopping or use with sharp chef knives, we suggest flipping the board to the non-resin side. Placing a tea towel underneath will keep the board steady while protecting the resin finish.
Serving Boards
The resin side of the cheeseboard is perfect for serving, presenting, and elevating your charcuterie or platters. Its striking design enhances the visual appeal of your food, making it ideal for entertaining and creating stunning photo opportunities.
While we recommend using only soft cheese knives on the resin surface, you can also place baking paper beneath cheeses to provide extra protection. Please note that the resin side is designed for food presentation and contact, not for everyday food preparation.
Product Care
While we take great care in crafting your products, proper maintenance is essential to ensure their longevity. Here are our recommendations for caring for your new purchase:
- Cleaning: Hand wash with warm water. Avoid soaking the board, and dry it promptly to prevent prolonged water exposure, which can cause the wood to warp or crack.
- Usage: Designed for indoor use only.
- Re-oiling: Regularly re-oil the board when the timber feels dry. Use any food-safe oil or beeswax; we personally recommend grapeseed oil. Avoid vegetable or olive oils, as they can become rancid over time.
- Sanding: If the wood develops a slight prickly texture, lightly hand-sand it with high-grit sandpaper (240 grit or higher) after re-oiling to smooth the surface.
- Storage: Store the board upright or flat in a dry area. To showcase the resin beach effect, avoid placing it against splash backs or on coffee tables.
With proper care, your board will remain a stunning and functional centrepiece for years to come!
